Doing some searches on YouTube today brought up this video of a lecture delivered by Professor Gary Sheffield at the Annual General Meeting of the Western Front Association in 2010. The full title of the lecture is, ‘1918: Was Douglas Haig ‘The Accidental Victor’ of the First World War?’. It is a thought provoking lecture on the importance of Haig to victory in the First World War. Sheffield is not uncritical where necessary but overall makes the point that Haig was critical to victory on the Western Front in the First World War. There are seven part to the lecture and it is well worth listening to.
